Nash Rattan Office Chair: Woven Back, Faux Leather Seat, Locking Wheels

By Furniture1002 min read

Nash mid-century swivel office chair with a rattan back, tan faux leather seat and wooden arms

The Nash is the chair for a room with plants in it. A rattan backrest, a faux leather seat, fixed wooden arms and a silver metal frame, on a swivel base that tilts, lifts and rolls on locking wheels. It is a task chair with the full set of adjustments, dressed as a piece of mid-century boho furniture.

What it is

Four materials doing four jobs. The rattan back supports and breathes, so your back stays cool. The faux leather seat is soft and wipes clean. The fixed wood arms add warmth and give the chair its silhouette. The silver metal frame keeps it modern and light on its feet.

Underneath, it swivels, it tilts, and the seat height adjusts. The castors lock, so you can fix the chair at the desk and unlock it to move, which is a detail most task chairs at this price do not have.

Who it suits

Someone who wants a fully adjustable desk chair that does not look like one. The rattan back is the reason to buy it: it is the coolest back in our range after mesh, and it is far better looking than mesh. It suits a home office with natural materials, a bedroom desk, or a living room corner where a padded chair would be too heavy.

The wood arms are fixed, so check their height against the underside of your desk.

Tan or green

Tan is the classic pairing with rattan and the one that reads as mid-century. Green is the statement and suits a room with plants, warm wood and cream walls. Rattan, arms and frame are the same on both.

Nash or Reid

Both have a rattan back and a faux leather seat. The Reid is armless, sits on a matte black steel frame with foot pads rather than wheels, and swivels without lifting or tilting. The Nash has arms, silver metal, and the full set of adjustments. Fixed desk and wooden floor, the Reid; long day and a need to adjust, the Nash.

Living with it

Wipe the seat with a damp cloth. Brush the rattan back rather than wetting it; dust in the weave is what dulls it. Spot clean as needed. Our guide to cane and rattan covers looking after a woven back in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Is a rattan back comfortable for a desk chair?

Yes, and it is cooler than an upholstered back. The weave gives slightly and lets air through, which is the same reason cane and rattan backs have been used on chairs for a century. It supports without insulating you.

What adjusts on the Nash?

It swivels, tilts and adjusts for height on a gas lift. The castors lock, so the chair can be fixed in place at the desk and released to move.

Are the arms padded?

No. They are fixed wood arms, which give the warm contrast against the silver frame and are what make the chair look like furniture. Check their height against any low desk rail.

How do I clean the seat and the back?

The seat is faux leather and wipes with a damp cloth. The rattan back wants a soft brush or the vacuum brush attachment to lift dust out of the weave, and nothing wet.

Tan or green?

Tan is the classic pairing with rattan and reads as mid-century. Green is the one that gets noticed and suits a room with plants and warm wood. The rattan back and the frame are the same on both.
